August 31, 2008 - cgb
This is only a heavily edited & cut version of the excellent documentation "Crazy Rulers Of The World" that consists of three parts, each 30 minutes. This is the only version I could find to embed as a teaser in this post.
It's about how the PsyOP [Psychological Operations Unit of the US Army) became fascinated by supernatural phenomena and wanted to take advantage of it.... Like trying to walk through walls, killing people through willpower by looking at them, etc. pp.
The story goes from the 60's meeting up of secret agents and political figures with the bohème, the MK Ultra project, Vietnam, Afghanistan, right to Guantanamo Bay and Abu Gharib... not to forget Sesame Street!

Here is a rather better summary of the documentary than my lines, including some reviews.

Here is a BBC documentary I urgently recommend. It describes how US troops torture innocent people in Afghanistan and by this produce new terrorists.
78RPM
August 14, 2008 - cgb
The 78RPM project has been put on hold due to technical problems. One of the parametric EQs is non-functional. I will get it fixed the next days.
Seems like it has to be re-capped.

UNITED RECORD PRESSING Hints & Tips
August 11, 2008 - cgb
This is a very useful guide for all who plan to release their music on vinyl records. I found it on the website of an American presig plant.
UNITED RECORD PRESSING Hints & Tips
The following was written to aid engineers and producers who wish to release vinyl records.
It is especially important for those who may be well versed in recording, but have not released vinyl records before. The paper is mainly about "pop" music , but the principles apply to all others. It was written to explain a complicated transformation in as simple terms as possible. To some it may seem very technical, to technical types it will seem simplistic.
It was written for the "middle ground".
This may look like some kind of long boring story but believe me ........ THIS IS A MUST FOR EVERYBODY MAKING MUSIC TO BE PRESSED ON VINYL.
Playback of 78rpm records
August 11, 2008 - cgb
For this purpose I bought an idler-wheel driven Lenco L75 turntable. I replaced the stock arm with a nice Syntec S-220, a 60's Japanese broadcast tonearm. On that I mounted a Shure M78 cartridge. It has a special needle for properly tracking the wide grooves of these old records.
I am still in the process of trying to get the proper equalisation, as these old discs are not cut with the now standard RIAA curves. I will keep you posted and add some pictures of the rig....

this is how the records that I am now trying to play back were recorded, somewhere in New Connecticut, 1947
Picture is taken from the Library Of Congress website, without kind permission....
